Ho Yuan-chen is a Taiwanese pianist born in 1975. She was taught by her mother at a young age and made her debut at the age of 13, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A Major(KV 488) alongside the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra at the National Concert Hall. She was discovered by noted conductor Henry Simon Mazer.

 

She graduated from the music programs of the Junior High Division of the Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University and Taipei Municipal Zhong-zheng Senior High School with full honors, securing preferential admission from Taipei National University of the Arts in 1994.

 

Her teachers in Taiwan included noted musicians and professors Mei Ming-hui, Lee Ching-huei, Chen Yu-Hsiu, Huang Ru-shing, and Chen Tai-cheng. Upon choosing instead to enroll at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 1994, she received further guidance on piano from Brigitte Engerer, and was mentored by Jean Mouiller, Alain Meunier, Maurice Bourgue, and Pierre-Laurent Aimard on chamber music.

 

She graduated with a Premier Prix and Diplome Superieur in piano performance from Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 1997, and was awarded a full scholarship that was established in the memory of late pianist Yang Siao-pei. The following year, she received her Diplome Superieur á unanimité in chamber music from Ecole Normale de Musique Paris.

 

During her time abroad as a student, she performed in concerts both as a piano soloist and with collaborating music groups. In 1995, she accepted an invitation from Taipei Mayor Chen Shui-bian to accompany his delegation to Warsaw and perform severa of Chopin’s compositions at his motherland, Poland.

 

Upon completing her studies in 2000, Ho returned to Taiwan to hold solo concerts and joint performances, debuting a wide array of music encompassing both classical and contemporary elements. She is currently an associate professor for piano at the Tainan National University of the Arts.
